PRINCE OF TENNIS (TENNIS NO OJISAMA)

Ryoma Echizen, who is a prodigy in tennis, goes to a school called Seishun Academy Middle School (Seishun Gakuen), or Seigaku in short, a school famous for its strong tennis club and talented players. Because of his cool and apathetic attitude, upperclassmen challenge him to play tennis. However, Ryoma had won the American junior tennis championship tournaments four times in a row, and easily defeated the upperclassmen. Making new friends and learning new tennis tactics, Ryoma and the Seigaku tennis club strive to win the All-Japan junior high tennis team championship tournament.

RYOMA ECHIZEN

Class: First year
Weight: 106 lb
Height: 151 cm
DOB: December 24th
Favorite Color: Silver
Favorite Subject: Science
Hobbies: Trying out different bath salts
Racket: Bridgestone (Dynabeam Grandae)
Clothing: Fila
Shoes: Fila
Family:
Nanjiro (father)
Rinko (mother)
Nanako(cousin)
Ryoga (brother)
Karupin (cat)

The rather aloof Ryoma is a student at Seishun Academy Middle School (Seigaku) where he transferred to from the United States. Although only a freshman, Ryoma's brilliant tennis skills had previously earned him a background of winning four consecutive titles in the American Junior Tennis tournaments - all in a little over a year. Due to his nearly invincible tennis play, at the age of twelve, Ryoma is already labeled as a genius.
He is an all-round tennis player and his special abilities are Twist Serve, One-Footed Split-Step, Cyclone Smash (or Cool Drive in the manga), and Drive Volley, such as "Drive B" and "Drive A" (or Drive B and C in the manga). Above all his Twist Serve is powerful. With his amazing control, the ball spins at the opponent's face with amazing speed and powerful spin. One of Ryoma's greatest talents is his ability to learn new techniques at an amazingly fast pace.
Although he is left-handed, his famous Twist Serve is only effective when delivered from the dominant hand of his opponents (ex. he uses his right hand when serving against right handed players and vice versa). He sometime plays the game with his right hand. This is mainly used as either a handicap for weaker opponents and as a way to test his opponents abilities. When the need for returning at a difficult angle or distance arises, Ryoma also incorporates the use of "nitoryū" or ambidexterity.
His catchphrase is "mada mada dane," literally meaning "no, not yet." Depending on the context, it can either mean "you're still not there yet" (to an opponent) or "it's not over yet." (Having been brought up in the United States most of his life, Ryoma is fluent in English, and in the manga, he says "You still have lots more to work on.")
Ryoma Echizen can be quite cocky and arrogant at times, but he is always able to back up his statements with his tennis skills. Often before a match, Ryoma will provoke his opponent. In the beginning of the series, Ryoma was not taken seriously by the other students at his school, and especially at Seigaku tennis club. Only after when he beat 2 of Seigaku's regulars did he gain respect with fellow club members. Because of his tennis skills, people are beginning to wonder about the "amazing freshmen." Echizen is a quiet kid, but he always stands up for himself and for others. If this means talking back to an upperclassmen, he'll do it. He is not afraid and is always ready to push the limits. Rarely does he get angry or out of control. Much of the time, he is serious, quiet, and untalkative. Sakuno Ryuzaki is a freshmen girl that has a big crush on Ryoma, but because he is so aloof, he does not recognize her feelings for him. Echizen is very popular with girls, and he does not recognize this at all.
At the beginning of the series, all of Ryoma's tennis skills were a copy of his father's; former tennis pro Nanjiro Echizen. With the help of his team captain Kunimitsu Tezuka, Echizen realizes he needs to develop his own style of tennis, especially if he wants to fulfill his dream of finally defeating his father.
With each match, it becomes apparent that Ryoma not only brings his potential to the front, but that he is constantly reaching a new point in the state of self-actualization - especially so during crucial points in a match. Although he views each opponent as a stepping stone of advancement, Tezuka soon becomes the wall that Ryoma has set up for himself in order to achieve actual greatness. We see a little interaction between Syusuke Fuji and Ryoma in the anime, although this is left somewhat unexplored and open-ended.
Although Ryoma has a rather tunneled vision as to whom he considers a rival, (Tezuka and his father) there are many that view the freshman as just that. One of the more notable examples of this in the anime is Kevin Smith, the son of Jintan Smith, the man who was defeated by Nanjiro Echizen. Kevin appeared later in the series in the "friendly" match between the U.S. and Japan. Kevin became obssessed with wanting to play Ryoma because of their pasts, whereas, in the beginning Ryoma regarded Kevin's threats with a rather unconcerned attitude.
Many of the characters in the anime, especially the members of the Seigaku tennis team, have very defined personalities, whether it be friendly, outgoing, passionate, or arrogant. Due to his excellent tennis skills and past accomplishments, Ryoma's confidence has frequently (and inaccurately) placed him in the last category. He appears cocky, but this is mainly kept on the courts where he employs it as a psychological tactic against his opponents. He is sarcastic in a lot of areas, yet quiet for the majority during any interaction with most of the characters in the anime, and he appears to be somewhat dense when it comes to human nature outside of tennis. Despite the boy's emotionless exterior, he does carry a friendship with his senpai Momoshiro.
He also (temp.?) gains an ability called "The Samurai's Eye", which allows him to perfectly mimic every tennis player's move shown in the series, which he uses in the last match of the japanese tournament.
KUNIMITSU TEZUKA

Tezuka is the captain of the tennis club and a third year student at Seishun Academy Middle School, or Seigaku for short. He is an incredibly talented player who is one of the only tennis players to ever beat Ryoma Echizen in singles, and he went to Nationals the year before the series takes place. Always serious about anything he does, he can most often be heard saying "20 laps around the courts". His special tennis attacks include his famous drop shot "zero-shiki" that lands on the ground then immediately rolls back, and his "Tezuka Zone". The latter technique allows him to completely control the spin on the ball so that no matter where his opponent hits the ball, it always returns directly to him. Tezuka only needs to pivot on one foot to return the ball when using "Tezuka Zone." Last but not least his No-touch-ace serve, an extremely powerful and accurate serve that few rarely see coming and fewer can return.

As a first-year student, he was very much like Ryoma Echizen. Tezuka was seen as overconfident and arrogant by the upperclassmen at Seigaku due to his talents and seriousness, especially when they discovered that he was left-handed though he played with his right. A jealous teammate then injures Tezuka's left arm, leading to chronic problems. By his third year, it is mostly healed, but the doctor still warns Tezuka against long matches and using his drop shot. Tezuka considers his health secondary to the team's success, and reinjures his arm in a grueling tie-break match against Atobe from Hyotei. He is sent to a health clinic in Kyushu in the manga, and in the anime, a health clinic in Germany, where he hopes to recuperate in order to play at Nationals.

Special Tennis Moves
The Time
Along with his No-touch-ace Serve and Tezuka Zone, the zero-shiki drop shot is one of the reasons Tezuka is acknowledged as a National level tennis player. The zero-shiki is truly a trump card, and as such, Tezuka rarely needs to use this move. The few times he has had to pull off the zero-shiki have been because he is facing an opponent that causes Tezuka to rise to the occasion. The few players that have actually caused Tezuka to reveal his trump card have been Nationally ranked or players that have an extremely high level of talent. Among these have been: Seishun tennis club members, Seishun super rookie Ryoma Echizen,Hyotei buchou Atobe Keigo, Hyotei regular Munehiro Kabaji, and Higa buchou Kite Eishirou.
The Place
Tezuka can use this move from virtually anywhere on the court. However, it is most often utilized from the baseline so that when an opponent is expecting a powerful return and strays to the back of the court, Tezuka can optimize the success of the zero-shiki drop shot.
The Reason
Where a normal drop shot catches the opponent off-guard and could potentially break their rhythm, the zero-shiki almost completely demoralizes the opponent. The ball is returned in a manner that deceives the opponent into thinking that it will be a normal return, however Tezuka has accomplished the zero-shiki to such a level that he only needs to drop his racket head 3.2 mm in order to pull it off. Once hit, the ball then floats over to the other side and drops a foot away from the base of the net. This is when the zero-shiki's true power is released. As soon as the ball hits the ground, it rolls backwards preventing the other player from even having the chance to return the drop shot.Truly terrifying, the zero-shiki drop shot.
Tezuka Zone
What Physics?
In a world where tennis players can break the laws of physics as casually as they can break a sweat, Tezuka's Tezuka Zone holds its own among the top jaw-dropping techniques. In order to pull off this godly technique, Tezuka plants one foot firmly on the gound and pivots with the other leg. From this stance, Tezuka is able to place a certain spin on the ball that forces the ball to return to his position no matter the manner in which it is returned by the other player.
No-touch-ace Serve
Try not to blink

To any player that happens to have the bad luck of facing Tezuka's service game, trying not to blink is probably the best advice to give. The Prince of Tennis universe is peppered with incredible serves, these range from Inui's Super Sonic Serve and Chotaroh's Scud Serve to Ryoma's Twist Serve and Akaya's Knuckle Serve. For this reason, Tezuka's serve is not as renowned as the serves previously mentioned. In comparison to the others, the No-touch-ace serve is a very "pure" serve. All Tezuka does is serve a ball with extremely heavy topspin, pinpoint precision and above average speed. Yet, this is all Tezuka requires to win most of his service games.
Hyaku Ren Jitoku no Kiwami
The Imprisoned God is Released

Merely speaking the name of this god-like technique should send shudders down the spine of anyone below the National level, and even those at the National level acknowledge the superhuman strength of this technique.
What makes the Hyaku possible is the Tezuka Zone. Tezuka enters the State of Self-Acualization, or the Muga no Kyouchi, then he focuses all that strength into his left arm. Combining the Hyaku with the Tezuka Zone allows Tezuka to prevent the immense loss of stamina caused by the Muga release, and it gives him the ability to return balls with twice the strength that they were hit with. The extent of the Hyaku's strength was shown briefly during Tezuka's match with Hyotei's Kabaji in which Tezuka returned Kabaji's heavy hits with twice Kabaji's strength.
*i'll be posting the other regulars info tomorrow...i'm currently watching the last ep. of pince of tennis*

Pretear: New Legend of Snow white (Shin Shirayuki-hime Densetsu Pretear)

Pretear is about a girl named Himeno Awayuki who aims to live a happy life especially after the death of her mother. Himeno meets Hayate, and eventually discoveres that he is one Leafe Knight (pronounced 'leef') in a group of seven. The group consists of Hayate (Knight of Wind), Sasame (Knight of Sound), Goh (Knight of Fire), Kei (Knight of Light), Mannen (Knight of Ice), Hajime (Knight of Water), and Shin (Knight of Plants). The knights explain that the 'Princess of Calamity', or 'Princess of Disaster' in the ADV translations, escaped and sent demon larva to Himeno's town, and that the Leafe, which the larvae are absorbing, is man's life force. The only way to destroy the demons is for Himeno to become the Prétear and fight them alongside the Leafe Knights.

CHARACTERS

HIMENO AWAYUKI
Princes Pretear

Age: 16
Birthday: July 9 [CANCER]
Appearance: Pinkish-red eyes and hair
Favorite Drink: Apple Tea
Secret Identity: Prétear
Bio: 16-year-old Himeno Awayuki wanted nothing more than to live an ordinary, happy life. But when her nutty father Kaoru goes and marries a wealthy business executive, Himeno finds herself living on an estate the size of a small country, with a brand new family that won’t even give her the time of day. But little does Himeno know that her troubles are about to go from bad to worse when seven handsome Knights of Leafe show up in search of the Pretear, a guardian of life destined to help them fight the Princess of Disaster, and save the Earth from Demon Larva and other Leafe-devouring fiends. Well, guess who just so happens to be the Prétear the knights are searching for? Yup, it’s Himeno, and life for this ordinary High School student is about to become extraordinary.

HAYATE
knight of wind

Presumed Age: 18
Birthday: April 27th [TAURUS]
Appearance: Blach hair, empty blue eyes
Favorite Drink: Coffee
Secret Identity: Wind Knight
Bio: The unfriendly and brooding Hayate appears to be the de-facto leader of the Knights of Leafe, and is the resident Knight of Wind. From the very beginning, Hayate is extremely unreceptive to the idea of Himeno being the Pretear and thus gives the impression to Himeno that he hates her. This standoffish nature causes numerous clashes between the two, but gradually, he begins to accept Himeno, though he’s still fast on the snippy and aggravating comments towards her. Very adept at using his wind powers, Hayate is one to gallantly rush in when all hope is lost to get Himeno and the others out of a jam.

SASAME
knight of sound

Presumed Age: 17
Birthday: December 30th [CAPRICORN]
Appearance: Silver hair, dense purple eyes
Favorite Food: Brown Rice
Secret Identity: Sound Knight
Bio: Considered as being the voice of reason amongst the Leafe Knights, Sasame is the Knight of Sound, and definitely the go-to guy when you’re feeling troubled by something. A kind-hearted and gentle man with a soothing voice, Sasame hosts his own talk radio show and has an enormous fan base of dedicated listeners, including Himeno’s step-sister Mawata, who writes him regularly in hopes of Sasame responding to her letters on the air. Sasame is always there for Himeno when she’s feeling blue or needs someone to talk to, and tends to get the most work after the brooding Hayate says or does something to upset the young Pretear.

KEI
knight of light

Presumed Age: 16
Birthday: February 1st [CAPRICORN]
Appearance: Light blonde hair, golden eyes
Favorite Drink/Food: Unknown
Secret Identity: Light Knight
Bio: Highly intelligent and way too serious sometimes, Kei is the resident Knight of Light for our band of heroes. Despite his peculiar appearance, Kei is a computer programming genius, and is hard at work trying to develop a program for predicting the next location where a Demon Larva might appear. With just one look around his cubical, his love of himself becomes quite apparent, made manifest in the photographs, key chains, and desktop backgrounds all featuring his picture plastered all over the place.

GOH
knight of fire

Presumed Age: 16
Birthday: August 22nd [LEO]
Appearance: Black hair with red highlights
Favorite Drink: Chocolate Milk
Secret Identity: Fire Knight
Bio: Best classified as the hardheaded fighter-type, Go isn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, but as the Knight of Fire, he’s an exceptional talent to have on hand when the situation gets rough. Go works as a waiter at an upscale cafe, and sometimes makes special deliveries out to the Awayuki mansion—something that he will be a bit less likely to look forward to in the future after nearly becoming Mayune’s new man-slave.

MANNEN
knight of ice

Presumed Age: 10
Birthday: November 25th [SAGITTARIUS]
Appearance: Ice blue hair, sea colored eyes
Favorite Drink: Cream Soda
Secret Identity: Ice Knight
Bio: Always eager for a chance to prove himself, Mannen is usually the first to change headlong into a battle against the Demon Larva, to make sure everyone gets a good look at his powers. Acting like the de-facto leader of the three youngest knights, Mannen is overconfident, but extremely brave. While his immaturity and inexperience tends to earn him the scorn of the older knights, Mannen is still a valuable asset to the team. His confidence and unwillingness to give up, no matter how dire the situation becomes, makes him an inspiration to the rest of the team.

HAJIME
knight of water

Presumed Age: 7
Birthday: April 8th [ARIES]
Appearance: Orange hair, sea colored eyes
Favorite Drink: Orange Juice
Secret Identity: Water Knight
Bio: Hajime, while not much older than Shin, is a valuable member of the Knights of Leafe, serving as the Knight of Water. He's rarely seen without his noticibly more headstrong older friend Mannen, and takes care of his younger friend Shin, acting as the core of the inseperable trio that the youngest knights form. Hajime sometimes helps Mannen scheme to come up with clever new ideas for countering the Demon Larva or aiding Himeno, whom he is always eager to Pret with.

SHIN
knight of plants

Presumed Age: 5
Birthday: April 8th [ARIES]
Appearance: Golden Brown hair, Green eyes
Favorite Drink: Royal Tea with Milk
Secret Identity: Plant Knight
Bio: Shin appears to be the youngest and most adorable member of the Knights of Leafe. With his marshmallow cheeks and doll-like appearance, Shin is a major girl magnet when the guys are out in public. Despite his age, Shin still has one of the most important jobs of all the knights. When combat erupts, it’s his job to cast Beyondios, which creates a containment field that ensures that no damage befalls the surrounding area during combat.

Kaoru Awayuki

Bio:A tad eccentric in his ways, Kaoru is Himeno’s loving father. An excessive drunk who drove his family into debt with his bad habits, this washed up hack was once one of the most profound girls’ novelists in the country. After the loss of his first wife, his gripping stories had won him the infatuation of his new wife, the wealthy business executive Natsue, who had named her own children after characters in his book.

Natsue Awayuki

Bio: A wealthy business executive at the head of the Awayuki conglomerate, Natsue practically owns the entire town surrounding her lavish mansion. Besides being fabulously wealthy, there’s one thing in the world more important to her than business. That, of course, is her beloved new husband Kaoru. No matter what outlandish or uninteresting thing he does, Natsue goes out of her way to be lovey-dovey with her husband. Aside from being Himeno’s step-mother, Natsue also has two daughters of her own, who she loves very much.

Mayune Awayuki

Bio: Arrogant and snooty, Mayune, reluctantly, is Himeno’s 16-year-old stepsister. Bitterly displeased by her mother’s new marriage, she seems to take out her anger on her new stepfather’s daughter, Himeno. Taking every opportunity available to pull some dastardly prank on the poor girl, their sisterly relationship is poor, to say the least. Her shallowness extends further into her own relationships, making any man who can’t see her ravishing beauty out to be some blind idiot.

Mawata Awayuki

Bio: Natsue’s youngest daughter, the 14-year-old Mawata seems indifferent to her mother’s remarriage. Withdrawn and reclusive in nature, Mawata isn’t as arrogant as her older sister, but she’s not really inclined to give anyone the time of day, either. Mawata was deeply troubled by the loss of her father, and finds comfort in writing into Sasame’s radio show, which he reads on the air and tries to console her. Will she be able to work through her sorrow?

Mr. Tanaka

Bio: A dedicated servant of Natsue for many years, Mr. Tanaka was actually one of Natsue’s classmates back in their schooldays. Mr. Tanaka has had a huge crush on Natsue for many years, but she never noticed him. Mr. Tanaka is content being close to Natsue as her family’s servant, since that’s as far with her as he’s ever going to get. Mr. Tanaka is also a big fan of insects, being a great bug hunter in his youth.

Mikage

Bio: Mikage is the Awayuki family maid, and has grown quite accustom to the family’s less than warm treatment or people. Mikage is always nice to Himeno, understanding how it is to come into such a difficult new family environment. Mikage is probably the easiest person to be around for Himeno while at home.

Yayoi Takashina
Bio: Himeno’s best friend since Junior High, Yayoi has a tendency of wandering off into fantasy land. Extremely interested in the Awayuki family, Yayoi tends to pop up in the most peculiar of places, trying to uncover what did or did not allegedly transpire between Natsue and Mr. Tanaka.

this is a non anime article...blah...blah...blah...today's fridy the 13th
Friday the 13th
Let's look at this objectively for a second:

In order to organize time, human beings created calendars.

As part of today's dominant calendar system, every year is divided into 12 periods called months, consisting of roughly 30 days each.

All days are also grouped into sets of seven, called weeks.

In the Western world, a significant chunk of the population suspects bad things will happen whenever the 13th day of a month occurs on the day of the week called Friday.

Like many human beliefs, the fear of Friday the 13th (known as paraskevidekatriaphobia) isn't exactly grounded in scientific logic. But the really strange thing is that most of the people who believe the day is unlucky offer no explanation at all, logical or illogical. As with most superstitions, people fear Friday the 13th for its own sake, without any need for background information.

The origin of the Friday the 13th superstition has been linked to the belief that there were 13 people at The Last Supper of Jesus, who was crucified on Good Friday, but it probably originated in medieval times. It has also been linked to the fact that a lunisolar calendar must have 13 months in some years, while the solar Gregorian calendar and lunar Islamic calendar always have 12 months in a year. Another suggestion is that the belief originated in a Norse myth about twelve gods having a feast in Valhalla. The mischievous Loki gate-crashed the party as an uninvited 13th guest and arranged for Hod, the blind god of darkness, to throw a branch of mistletoe at Balder, the god of joy and gladness. Balder was killed instantly and the Earth was plunged into darkness and mourning as a result.

FMA Characters 2
THE CHIMERAS

Biddo

A chimera that followed Greed. He was a member of Martel's team in Ishbal (though one wonders how). He was fused with a lizard, enabling him to have a firm grip on surfaces when climbing and using his tail as a weapon. He was originally sent to retrieve the Elric brothers for Greed's wish to annoy the other Homocunli pursing them, but instead he reported about the new Homoculus Wrath and his abilty to perform alchemy which Greed was interested in. Biddo is often seen near Kimblee and seemed to be the only one in Greed's group to trust him, though it was more likely he just likes watching things "go BOOM." Biddo met his end when he was gunned down by the military while escaping with Greed as part of Archer's order to "sanitize" the Devil's Nest during the Military raid of the Tavern.

Dolcetto

A loyal Chimera that swore loyalty to Greed. Much like Nina, he was fused with a dog but retained his human appearance. Because he is part dog, he can use his newfound speed along with his great swordsmanship, and his sense of smell is superior to that of a normal human. He was killed by the Homunculi when he fought them to give Greed safe passage to Dante.

Martel

One of the Chimeras that joined Greed to get revenge on the military for what they did to her. She, Dolcetto, and Roa were part of the Amestris Special Forces, whose defiling of an Ishbal temple and killing everyone in it was the real catalyst for the war. Her unit was sent to the 5th Laboratory to keep them quiet, on the suggestion of Zolf J. Kimblee and the supervision of Basque Grand. There they became test subjects in Chimera research. Martel was fused with a snake, giving her enhanced agility, the ability to contort/move her body like a snake, and the ability to stretch her arms long distances.

Nina Tucker

She was Shou Tucker’s only daughter, she idolized him. She was two years old when her mother "went away." Nina is unaware of what really happened to her, or her father's real reason for feeling so guilty for her leaving. Two years later, when the Elric brothers were living with the Tuckers, Nina was like the little sister they never had. She loved to play outside with the family dog, Alexander. Unfortunately, when her father's State Alchemist evaluation was coming up, Basque forced Tucker to do something he hoped to never do again: create another talking chimera by fusing the Nina and Alexander, repeating the same horrible act his wife was put through. After that, Shou went slightly insane from the selfish act of putting himself ahead of his one and only child. Despite Ed's intent to restore Nina, Shou explained the fusion was perfect, so separation could harm or even kill the girl and her dog. Confused and scared when Basque had her taken to the 5th Laboratory for "treatment", 'Nina-chimera' ran away and encountered Scar who killed her out of mercy (destroying her from inside out).
Roa

A chimera that follows Greed. He was fused with a bull, making him as strong as one. He wields a hammer as his weapon and has an ability to transform into a steroid enhanced version of himself with more bull-like aspects like horns. He was killed by the Homunculi when he fought them to give Greed safe passage to Dante.

Shou Tucker

He was formely known as the Sewing Life Alchemist (another translation of his name is "Stitching" so it can be assumed that Sewing is his title, as in he stiches life into the chimeras he creates). He became famous after producing a chimera that could speak, if only one sentence; 'I want to die'. The chimera eventually starved itself to death. Tucker hosted the Elric brothers while they studied for the State Alchemist exams until Ed found out that Shou used his wife to create the chimera. To keep his position as a State Alchemist and pressured by Basque Grand, Shou used his daughter Nina, and the family dog in the creation of a new talking chimera. When the Elric brothers arrived too late to stop him, Shou explained to an enraged Ed that he would have lost Nina either way and has no one to comfort him, and that as a scientist, he can't help but try what might be possible; he points out that Ed himself attempted forbidden human transmutation.

THE HOMUNCULI

Envy

An effeminate figure with a dry wit, Envy has the ability to assume the form of any person and copy their voice. He also displays high agility, feats of superhuman strength when enraged, and the power to manipulate his body to form weapons. Envy claims that he has forgotten what he originally looked like (a teenage Hohenheim in the anime), but in truth chose not to revert to his human form out of hatred for his "father," whom he resembled. As the oldest surviving Homunculus, he is most comfortable in the "adorable" form of a young androgynous male. Envy's most valued contribution(s) to Dante and the others' cause is impersonation, gathering information unnoticed, and using his abilty to change form to carry out efficient assassinations. Envy's favored technique for murdering humans is to impersonate someone the target cares deeply for, and use their natural hesitation as the opportunity needed to kill them. In this way he was able to kill Maes Hughes before he could reveal the identity of Juliet Douglas to Mustang and the Elrics. He hates all humankind and follows Dante mostly for the opportunity of killing more people. Envy, unlike the other Homunculi, does not care about the Philsopher's Stone... or becoming human. His longtime grudge against Greed made Envy a key figure in his imprisonment within the 5th Laboratory.

Gluttony

He is one of the older Homunculi. In the anime, he is old enough to have been familiar to Greed but young enough that he doesn't recognize Hohenheim. He has the total mentality of a child and has a very dependent nature. True to his name, he is always eager to eat anything, or anyone, living or dead. In the anime version, he is physically very strong, with agility disproportionate to his size. The muscles in his jaws are also very powerful and his saliva is acidic, dissolving even the toughest metals to feed his ravenous appetite. He emotionally latches onto Lust and takes direction from her. Little is known of his past, though Dante said that Gluttony was created solely to make a Philosopher's Stone from those he consumed. After Lust dies, Gluttony is traumatized, and tired of hearing him cry over the fallen Lust, Dante transmutes Gluttony to a mindless monster, devoted only to his boundless appetite, making eating Al and the perfection of the Philosopher's Stone in his stomach that much simpler.

Greed

A slick character, a ladies' man and all-around arrogant fellow, Greed is the ancient Homunculus known as the "Ultimate Shield". He is able to make himself impervious to harm by rearranging the bonds between the carbon atoms in his body and changing his skin into an unnamed carbon-based substance (presumably black diamond or carbon steel), which gives him the appearance of an black-skinned monster. Interestingly, when in this form he does not move his mouth when he speaks, but does when he laughs. Unlike the other homunculi (except Envy), Greed has no interest in the Philosopher's Stone, and is more interested in money, women, and power (hence his name). Greed is the second oldest of the Homunculi at the time of the story, younger than Envy.

Lust

Sultry and cool-headed, Lust is the first of the Homunculi encountered in the series. Her title is "Ultimate Lance." Her fingers (actually her fingernails/tips) are able to extend into razor sharp blades which can slice through almost anything. She has also lashed out thin projectiles from her fingertips from time to time (which are never physically seen and are depicted as a glimmering strand no thicker than the breadth of hair) although it is possible they are only her fingernails in their traditional use.

Pride

In the anime, he is King Bradley, the political and military ruler of Amestris holding the official title of president, also called "Führer." Created by Dante, he controls the country and directs its military in secret to further her ends. His Ouroburos tattoo is on his left eye, which Pride covers with an eye patch. His "Ultimate Eye" gives him the foresight to see all possible outcomes of a given situation, allowing him to predict the moves of any opponent before they happen. Dante considered him her finest creation - the only Homunculus who could appear to age like a normal human. Pride is younger than Greed and Envy while he is older than Sloth, Wrath and Lust.

Sloth

The youngest Homunculus in the anime. She assumed the identity of Colonel Juliet Douglas, a soldier who was said to have sparked the Ishbal War by killing an unarmed Ishbal child (yet mysteriously died two years before the war had started). Through manipulation and plotting with Pride, she became his secretary - serving as his emissary/executive assistant. Sloth is hydrokinetic and is watery in composition (as all homunculi powers match up with the laws of alchemy one can only assume that Sloth can control the color and pressure of her body or can perform some form of self-transmutation that converts her aqueous body into flesh and blood). This allows her her to travel rapidly through water, and use water based attacks such as drowning her victims with her limbs and making a spinning waterspout to attack. She was created by the Elric brothers when they tried to resurrect their mother, Trisha Elric. For this reason, she looks exactly like her. She is haunted by the memories of her "life" as Trisha, and believes that killing the Elric brothers should stop the pain.

Wrath

In the anime he is the second youngest Homunculus. With the appearance of a ten to fourteen year-old child, he is exceptional as he possesses the ability to perform alchemy (unlike the other Homunculi), and is unique even among most alchemists in that he can transmute without a transmutation circle. He can do this because of his right arm and left leg, which originally belonged to Edward Elric. He can also fuse his body's form with other objects, whether or not the objects are organic. In one instance, Wrath accidentally fused himself to the bed on which he was lying, combining his organic form with that of the bed's wooden frame and cloth sheets. Later he was able to fuse himself with Sloth. He has the ability to stretch his Homunculus limbs to great lengths, at which time his limbs take on a blue color, and appear similar to a large mass of muscle fibers. Wrath's alchemy stems from the fact that his limbs were once part of a being with a soul who never died (i.e., Ed). However, as they are only a small part of the being, his alchemy must, like the alchemy-like powers of the other homunculi, be focused around himself. He has performed transmutations on other objects without fusing himself, such as when he mirrored Ed's trademark lance, but these transmutations are simple. More complex alchemy requires him to fuse himself with the object or fuse with the transmutation circle itself, as he did when he activated the Flamel array he used to make Lust vomit up her red stone.

Full Metal Alchemist Characters
THE ELRICS
Alphonse Elric

Alphonse Elric is the younger brother to Edward. He too has a profound knack at alchemy, but is not a state alchemist, which allows him to do certain things that Edward cannot do. Of the two brothers, Alphonse would be the kinder and more understanding of them. Through their trials and tribulations, he keeps his reckless brother out of too much trouble.
Edward Elric

Edward Elric, the older of the two brothers, is characteristically short. But following the principles of equivalent trade, what he loses in height, he gains in his abilities as an alchemist. Edward becomes the youngest state alchemist in history, a prodigal genius. As all state alchemists have, he is given a codename, Full Metal Alchemist, rooting from his auto-mail (artificial metal) body, his arm and leg. In order to recover his original body, along with his brother, he travels to find the philosopher's stone.
Hohenheim of Light

The father of Edward and Alphonse Elric. He could perform alchemy without a transmutation circle and was a legend of his time, but Ed holds a grudge against him for abandoning his mother. By the time he resurfaced to face Dante, he was over 400 years old. At some point in the past, Dante and Hohenheim had a relationship, which resulted in one child. This child died due to mercury poisoning, but was resurrected as a Homunculus: Envy. However, Hohenheim eventually left Dante, and stated that Trisha Elric was the only woman he ever loved. He created a Philosopher's Stone and, like Dante, used it to transfer his soul into a new body to live perpetually.
Trisha Elric

Trisha Elric is the loving mother of Edward and Alphonse Elric. However, she is pained by the long absence of her husband. During this time, she develops an illness that is hidden of the other side of her always smiling face. She is the one that Ed and Al attempt but failed to transmutate and bring back to life.
THE ROCKBELLS

Pinako Rockbell

She is a master of auto-mail design and construction who also happens to be the grandmother of Winry Rockbell. She is short and always has her hair in a ponytail. Her trademark is the pipe which she grips in her mouth. She watched over Edward and Alphonse like they were her grandchildren after the disappearance of their father and death of their mother.
Winry Rockbell

The auto-mail specialist and childhood friend of the Elric brothers, Winry lives with Aunt Pinako. She is the creator of Edward's auto-mail and its mechanic. Orphaned by the death of her parents during a civil war, Winry stays with Pinako learning the tricks of the trade in terms of auto-mail. She lives with her grandmother and pet dog in Resembool.
OTHER MAIN CHARACTERS

Dante

Dante was Izumi Curtis' alchemy instructor. Several hundred years ago, Dante was Hohenheim's original lover. She had cheated death for centuries by transferring her soul into other bodies by using the Philosopher's Stone. However, the transfer was imperfect, as Dante's soul eroded with each transfer causing each new body to decay more quickly than the last. She can perform alchemy without a transmutation circle, an ability she gained at an unknown time in the past. She uses the symbol of a winged snake fixed on a cross which is passed on to Izumi, and then to the Elric brothers. It is meaningful that the symbol is the opposite of the
Ouroboros worn by the Homunculi. It represents a fixation of the volatile principal in alchemy as opposed to the endless cycle represented by Ouroboros.

Izumi Curtis

She is the powerful alchemist who took the eager Elric brothers on as students shortly after their mother's passing. The red tattoo on her chest is the same insignia that appears on Edward's coat and the left shoulder of Alphonse's armor. The insignia is passed on from teacher to student as Dante, Izumi's Alchemy teacher, also displayed the symbol. The symbol, a winged snake fixed on a cross, is literally the opposite of the
Ouroboros worn by the Homunculi. Izumi is an extremely strong woman, both emotionally and physically: along with her talent for alchemy, Izumi is also an accomplished martial artist. The Elric brothers are taught with her own unique form of sparring combined with philosophy to gain a fuller understanding of alchemy. Unfortunately, she will snap at anyone at any given time, making her downright scary. She is married to Sieg Curtis, a husky and well-built butcher of few words.

Rosé Thomas

Rosé is from the city of Liore in a remote region of the East. She was one of devout followers of Cornello's teachings because she felt that he would use his powers to bring her boyfriend, Kain, back to life. However, she is shocked when all Cornello is able to produce is a talking parrot chimera, which was going to eat her before Al intervened. With her hope shattered, Rosé was forced to start over and persevere through hard times when the military intervened in Liore. Rose was imprisoned by the military. Though not said directly, it is assumed by many that Rosé was raped repeatedly and that the trauma of her ordeal left her mute. When she is next shown, she is free and has a child. Scar uses her as the symbol of hope for the people of Liore, referred as the Holy Mother. Later, seeing Edward paralyzed at the sight of Sloth, Rosé gets her voice back and uses what he told her before to snap him out of it. She became targeted as Dante's next vessel with the new Philosopher's Stone and her baby is used by Dante to open the Gate.
Scar

He is known only as Scar because of the unique scar on his face. He often places himself in a position to act as a judge and messenger of his God, Ishbala, by killing Nationally Certified Alchemists. The tattoo on his right arm conceals the power of destruction bestowed upon him by his brother. The fates of Scar and the Elric brothers appears to be intertwined as they cross paths often. Their relationship seems to change upon each meeting depending on the circumstances.
STATE MILITARY

Major General Hakuro

He is one of the top-ranking officers in the military. Near the beginning of the series, he is held hostage on a train by Bald while he is returning home from vacation. He also proctored Edward's first Alchemist Exam, as his way of repaying the boy. Hakuro, along with the Führer and Colonel Mustang, were among the selcted group of officers judging Edward's practical skills test during the alchemy exam. Shortly thereafter General Hakuro promoted Mustang and Hawkeye one level, and reassigned them to the Eastern Territories to help clean up Lieutenant Yoki's mess. He was later seen leading the military in Lior after Envy, disguised as the Prophet Cornello, rallied the people into a civil war. It was General Hakuro who took Rose hostage and he was ultimately responsible for her being raped repeatedly.

Briagadier General Basque Grand a.k.a Iron Blood Alchemist

He is able to transmute the iron in his blood to an assortment of guns and other weapons. The leading proponent for using the Philosopher's Stone for military applications, Grand was the one who had Marcoh's research be used in the Ishbal War. With his power augmented, Grand could turn his entire body into an enormous pillar of cannons, with only his face visible. After Marcoh went AWOL, Grand was enraged for losing such power and decided to forge his own Philosopher's Stone. Grand was also in charge of the "defunct" Laboratory 5 in Central, which he ran in hope of creating a Philospher’s Stone for his own purposes. It was Grand who forced Shou Tucker to use his daughter in his Chimera project, intending to use the chimeras created in the 5th Lab and findings on the Philosopher’s Stone for his own ends. After Ed and Al located Dr. Marcoh, Grand and his men arrived to take the Doctor into state custody to force him to resume work on the Philospher's Stone. Unfortunately, Grand’s car was intercepted by Scar, who killed Grand before he could see his ambitions realized.

Lt. Colonel Roy Mustang a.k.a. Flame Alchemist

Roy Mustang is a state alchemist, specializing in flame alchemy. He has achieved his rank from his prior achievements during the eastern Ishbal war. His alchemy resides with the use of his fiber-synthetic gloves, which have a transmutation circle sewn into them. At first glance, Roy is nothing more than a cocky man who would jump at the chance to see women in skirts, but in reality he is a determined person, who is not so easy to defeat.

Lt. Colonel Maes Hughes

Maes Hughes is a solder belonging to the internal affairs branch of the military. Hughes and Mustang have been close friends for a long time and maintain a deep bond. Hughes has promised to help Mustang climb to the top of the military. Even though he is often busy on missions, he is still a family man who is constantly thinking of his family. His family consists of his loving wife and daughter.
Lt. Colonel Frank Archer

Although seen as an extra during numerous military events (such as the burial of Hughes), is formally introduced halfway through the anime series as a replacement for the then late
Brigadier General Maes Hughes. Archer is in charge of Military Intelligence, and is very cool, calm, and collected; unfortunately, it would seem he is also a ruthless sociopath, with no semblance of moral fiber. Archer thoroughly enjoys war and all his actions are aimed towards preparation for future wars. Archer could easily be compared to Basque as far as morality goes. He is obsessed with becoming a war hero as a means of advancing his position. His actions are always aimed at pleasing his superiors and creating as much positive publicity for himself as possible. Archer is officially put in charge of the investigation of Lab 5, but quickly diverts his investigation into recovering the results of the Lab 5 research for his own ends. Originally looking for the Elric brothers, Archer quickly becomes far more interested in the homoculus Wrath and the survivors of Lab 5. Striking a deal with Kimblee, Archer obtained Greed's skull and then managed to storm Greed's headquarters at the Devil's Nest, where he found Tucker as well.
Major Alex Loius Armstrong a.k.a. Strong Arm Alchemist

Alex Louis Armstrong's large frame and quick footwork do not match to the appearance of an alchemist who possesses enormous destructive power coming from his knuckles. Many of his skills have been passed down for generations in the Armstrong family. Like all other Nationally Certified Alchemists, he is a Major in the military. He is initially assigned to watch over and protect the Elric brothers. Armstrong, extremely fond of his chiseled body, constantly searches for opportunities to flex and show off his body.

Major Zolf J. Kimblee a.k.a. Crimson Alchemist

He uses the chemical properties in the human body to create explosive fluids, turning people into living bombs. A sick and perverse man, Kimblee loved to kill numerous civilians, women, and children just to hear the sound of them exploding, with the nihilistic view that human lives - even his own - were without substance and therefore worthless. With the Incomplete Stone provided by Marcoh worn around his neck, Kimblee's ability to create explosions was dramatically enhanced. However, Kimblee's bloodlust was not satified; he pursued the escaping Ishbalans, killing some while inflicting inhuman torture on Scar, scarring his face and blowing off his original right arm. It was by the interference of Scar's brother absorbing his incomplete stone that Kimblee was forced to take his leave, with Basque Grand destroying most of the landscape via his own enhanced alchemy. From that moment on Kimblee was marked as the prime target on Scar's list. When he killed one of his superior officers prior to going after the Ishbalans Kimblee was sent to the prison next to the 5th Laboratory, sentenced to death. He was one of the prisoners the Homunculi and Shou Tucker tried to trick Edward Elric into using as an ingredigent to create a Philosopher's Stone, but Zolf blew up another prisoner to escape, exposing the truth to Edward.

First Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye

Riza Hawkeye is Roy Mustang's subordinate, acting as his advisor and his aid. Hawkeye is very skilled in the use of firearms. She is always calm and cool, and not easily perturbed by many things. However, she is secretly feared by her peers. She is the only one of Mustang's subordinates that can talk back to him without any consequences. Perhaps it is because she has kept him in line on his steady rise through the ranks of the military.
First Lieutenant Yoki

He was in charge of the mines in Youswell and was a very corrupt man who rose to his position through massive bribes. His influence on the people of Youswell was profoundly negative: not only did he levy heavy taxes on the people, he also lowered their wages, virtually bankrupting the city.
Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc

Jean Havoc is a second lieutenant under the command of Roy Mustang. Often seen with a stick of toabcco in his mouth, Havoc is known to be a very trustworthy and reliable person although he prefers to remain out of danger and behind a desk instead.
Second Lieutenant Heymans Breda

He is good at chess and is one of Mustang's subordinates. He occasionally plays pranks on the other members of Mustang's group. He also has a talent for strategy games, including chess, go, and shogi. He is afraid of dogs, and mostly everything else.
Second Lieutanant Maria Ross

She is put in charge of taking care of the Elric brothers during their stay in Central City. She and her partner were assigned the task of guarding the Elrics due to Scar's return in Central City and his previous attempt on Ed and Al's lives. Almost immediately, she takes on the role of a parental figure. She tries to give guidance to the brothers whenever she can. She took a liking to Ed and Al, and risked her life to calm Ed down when he was absorbing the red stone material inside laboratory 5.
Warant Officer Vato Falman

He escorted General Hakuro back from his vacation and he works in the investigation department under Lieutenant Hughes, as well as aiding Roy Mustang at Eastern Headquarters. After Hughes's untimely death Falman begs Mustang to let him join the team, and after thinking it through Mustang allows him to transfer with him back to Central. Falman is particularly known for his precision and data.
Sergeant Major Kain Fuery

Kain Fuery is a master sergeant under Mustang's command. He is the chief radio operator and is proud of his job. Because he is both gentle and a dupe, he is asked to fix many things at headquarters.

Sergeant Denny Brosh

Almost always seen with Lieutanant Ross, he is rather nosy and lazy. He also has an enormous infatuation with Maria Ross. He also has a resemblance to Ed. Like Ross, he also works under Major Alex Louis Armstrong.

Sheska

Her responsibilities include organizing and keeping records of all of the books in the First Branch of the Central City library, but because she spent more time reading books than organizing them she was fired. She has a photographic memory when it comes to books, and her ability to recite them verbatim was a great help to the Elric Brothers for recreating Tim Marcoh's book after Scar's battle with Lust and Gluttony destroyed the library. She also helped Hughes recreate State Military files lost in the library until he fired her to save Sheska from the military's higher-ups. After Hughes's death, she tried investigating his death herself, and succeeded in learning the strange discrepancies about King Bradley's secretary Juliet Douglas, which is the same information that Hughes discovered before he was killed. Sheska explained her theory to Winry while Winry was in Central, and both decided to tap the phone lines to King Bradley’s Secreatary. This confirmed the discrepencies regarding Ms. Douglas, and Sheska subsequently fled to Resembool with Winry to escape Maes Hughes’ fate.
I'll be posting up the information about the Homunculus, Chimeras and some other characters from the movie and anime series tomorrow.

FULL METAL ALCHEMIST (HAGANE NO RENKINJUTSUSHI)
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
— Alphonse Elric

Edward and Alphonse Elric were children living in a rural village. Their father, an alchemist, left home when Edward was very young and Alphonse was a baby. Years later, their mother died of a mysterious illness. The boys made the decision to attempt to revive their deceased mother. They studied alchemy with a teacher and then used their father's notes to recreate a human transmutation circle. Their attempt costs Alphonse his entire body and Edward his left leg. Desperate not to lose his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm in order to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor.
A State Alchemist by the name of Roy Mustang arrives shortly after in response to letters the boys had sent out seeking information about their father. Spurred on by the man's proposal, Edward sets out to become a State Alchemist. He is intent on using the resources of State Alchemists to find a way to restore what he and Alphonse have lost. The brothers eventually learn of the philosopher's stone and set off in search of it as a means of restoring their bodies.

NARUTO

Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the Kyūbi no Yōko (Nine-Tails Demon Fox) attacked Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village. It was a powerful demon indeed; the flap of a single tail of the Kyūbi would raise tsunamis and flatten mountains. It raised chaos and slaughtered the people, until the leader of Konoha – the Hokage – defeated it by sacrificing his own life to seal Kyūbi inside a newborn child. That child's name was Uzumaki Naruto.

The Fourth Hokage was remembered as a hero for sealing the Kyūbi away, and he wanted Naruto to be remembered as a hero as well for being the vessel of containment for the fox demon, but the village he grew up in had mostly contempt for Naruto, because of the tragedy that was brought to them by the same demon that's living inside Naruto.

A decree made by the Hokage made it so that the other villagers were forbidden to mention the event to anyone, even their own children. However, this did not stop them from treating Naruto like an outcast. Although their children did not specifically know why their parents treated Naruto the way they did, they learned through example to despise the boy. As result, Naruto grew up as an orphan in a lonesome atmosphere without friends, family or acknowledgment. He could not bring his parents back nor force people to befriend him, so he sought acknowledgment and attention the only way he knew – through pranks and mischief. But that would soon change; Naruto is about to face the ninja academy graduation exam – a gateway to the events and people that will change and define his world and his way of the ninja for the rest of his life.
Naruto maintains a balance between drama and comedy. It follows Naruto and his friends' personal growth and development as ninja, and emphasizes their interactions with each other and the influence of their backgrounds on their personalities. Naruto finds two friends and comrades in Uchiha Sasuke and Haruno Sakura, two fellow young ninja who are assigned with him to form a three-man team under a very experienced sensei named Hatake Kakashi. They learn new abilities, get to know each other and other villagers better and experience a coming-of-age journey as Naruto dreams of becoming the next Hokage of Konoha.
